Barcelona. Devstrom was pleased to attend the only telecommunication conference focusing on Rich Communication Services in Barcelona. Rich Communication Services are designed to enrich the user experience by allowing carrier-independent social networking, video-conferencing and file sharing over multiple communications platforms. Carriers expect new revenue streams from such services in order to stay competitive against Over the Top Communication (OTT) providers such as Skype and Google Voice.

There was an overall broad consensus among carriers such Orange and Telefonica, equipment and software vendors to accelerate commercial roll-outs as the time window has come and the technology is ready.

Especially the young generation has only recently developed different communication patterns and their needs are transforming the communication business. Viable communication products must enable customers to stay in touch with their social networks conveniently 24/7 and enrich their interaction with voice, media and other services.

Facebook and Skype are at the forefront of delivering such new services and have become key enablers for new communication trends. This development is pushed by the continuous growth of mobile data services and the ongoing development towards LTE networks on the carrier side.

Rich Communication Services aim to create new services for the "always" on generationto leverage the potential of next generation telecommunication networks and create new revenue streams. Social networking, filesharing and video communication across multiple platforms in combination with Developer APIs will allow the implementation of user centric and individually tailored communications solutions.
